End of Quarter 3

Can you believe it? We are already approaching the end of Quarter 3. Here are some important dates and information that you should all be aware of:

3/7/17 - The outline and the paragraphs and counterarguments parts of the persuasive essay are due. Mrs. Porter has access to these online so will be grading whatever you have finished on this date. Be sure that they are complete and ready to be graded.

3/9/17 - Last Day to turn in any work. The Book Buddy Bookmark is due this day, though it is welcome to come in earlier. This is the last day that I will be able to collect it. If you need another one in a pinch, you can go to Google classroom, click the independent reading topic in the left sidebar, and find the Book Buddy Bookmark. Scroll through until you find the high school version of the book mark (yup, that's right, you are doing high school work!) and this is the one you need to complete.

Quarter 2

You made it through the first quarter, congratulations! As we begin the second quarter I want to remind you of a few important things:

1. You need to be reading another independent reading book. The book project will be worth more each quarter, so you want to make sure you get a good start on it!

2. Your October vocabulary quiz will be on Nov. 3.

Parent Teacher Conferences and Important Dates

I had some great meetings with the parents who were able to come by during the times I was at parent teacher conferences. For those of you whom I was not able to meet with, please feel free to email me with any concerns or request a phone conference. I encourage everyone to check this blog frequently for the Google calendar in the sidebar. Important due dates will be marked on this calendar, so even if there is not a new post on the blog, there may be new assignment dates posted. Just as a reminder, here are some important dates coming up:

  • Sept. 29 - A Visitor's Guide to Utah is due (Level 4, WP Assignment).
  • Oct. 3 - Sept. Vocabulary Quiz and then read-a-thon so bring your independent reading book! Now is your chance to get caught up and fill in your bookmarks!
  • Oct. 7 - Book Buddy Bookmarks are due (which means you have to have finished the independent reading book you chose).
  • Oct. 17 - Last day of Quarter 1

Second Week and a Reading Book

We made it through the first week of school! I had a great time meeting all my students and I know that this is going to be a great year. This week all students will need to bring an independent reading book. An independent reading book will be required every day throughout the year. Parents, please help your student find a book that they will enjoy reading and that they can bring to class. A book from home, the school library, our class library, or the public library will all be appropriate. I will begin taking points for a reading book on Friday, Aug. 26. Students will not only be required to bring a book to class, but there will be a project due each term for independent reading.
